| There has to be a qualifying criteria for any scheme so if yours don't match, don't bother.Even though the car will be scrapped,it needs to meet the criteria or else hordes of people will be pushing any old banger up to the garage just for the £2000.If you don't qualify, have a good old haggle with the salesman at the garage, you can probably get a better deal anyway bearing in mind that the scrappage discount is normally off the full retail price.Don't forget they would have been contributing £1000 of the scrappage deal anyway.Use your mouse to find the best deal for you on the internet. This scheme is the old smoke and mirrors trick so don't be fooled easily, explore all the options. | ||

| Reply Sally. We're not aware of any restrictions on previous off-the-road declarations so your car should be eligible for scrappage. | ||

| Reply Emily: Hi, as long as your car meets all other criteria there is a slim chance you could qualify for the scrappage scheme but only if it continues through to Feb. next year (as you say you have owned the car for six months so you need another six months to qualify). However the official government trade in scheme ends at the end of Feb. or if the allocated £300 million runs out - whichever is first. It is likely the £300 million will run out October/November but there is a possibility the government may keep the scheme running a while longer. | ||

| Reply Liam: Hi - unfortunately, no. The registration date cut-off point will remain the same for the duration of the scheme, only vehicles first registered in the UK on or before August 31 1999 can be traded in for new. | ||

| My MOT has already expired more than 14 days ago. I still don't understand why you need one at all as the car is going to be scrapped. Just seems a bit backwards to me. So take it theres no chance of doing it after the 14 days then. Thanks anyway | ||

| My car has just failed it's MOT and I was thinking about using the scrappage scheme but have read that it needs a valid MOT certificate. If the car is going to be scrapped I don't understand why it needs a valid MOT. What is the reason for this and is there no way I can use the scrappage scheme without it passing an MOT? Thanks | ||

| Reply: @Bernadette Hi. The original purpose of the scheme was to provide a boost to the car trade and take older, more polluting cars off the road in favour of newer cars with 'greener' engines. presumably the Government thinking on this is that owners of cars without MOT won't be on the road and would have bought another car anyway. However, having said that, the BERR (the Government body responsible for the scheme) did initially seem to allow vehicles declared SORN but have since categorically stated that this won't be allowed. Hope this helps, Kevin Smith scrappage.co.uk | ||

| Why does my vehicle have to have a current MOT if it's going to be dismantled and scrapped? Why make something workable only to be destroyed? The origional purpose at the begining of your scheme was for the vehicles to be off the road?!? (I'm Really confused? %-}) | ||
